Zusammenfassung: The two-piece summer dress, fashioned in the style of the lingerie dress, features the typical
s-bend silhouette of the early 1900´s.
To understand the manufacturing process and to reconstruct the alterations in bodice and skirt,
an extensive condition survey is carried out to identify the applied materials and an analysis of
the dress pattern is performed.
On the basis of the condition assessment a restoration concept is formulated which will be
applied for a call for tender.
The severely degraded weighted silks present the most dominant feature of the various
damages found in the dress. These are further investigated by performing an array of scientific
analysis.
Exemplary restorations are carried out in areas with representative damages. The focus lies
on the conservation of the fragile fabrics. The discussed and tested methods involve stitching
and adhesive repair techniques.
