Erkenntnisse zur Maltechnik und zur künstlerischen Ausführung der Wandmalerei

Die vorliegende Untersuchung der Ausmalung in der ehemaligen Bibliothek der Brandenburger Domklausur fokussiert die restauratorische Wahrnehmung auf die bemerkenswerte Maltechnik und ergänzt die spezifischen Beobachtungen durch technologische Exkurse.
Im Rahmen der Ausführungen werden die maltechnisch außerordentlichen Details im Kontext zur Entwicklung der Wandmalereitechnik des 15. Jahrhunderts ausgedeutet. Dabei erweckt die spätmittelalterliche Raumgestaltung der ehem. Bibliothek maltechnisch wie formal den Eindruck einer gewissen Nähe zur Buchmalerei.achtungen durch technologische Exkurse.

The presented examination of the painted decoration in the former library of the Brandenburg Cathedral focuses on the perception of the remarkable painting technique from the restorer's point of view. These specific observations are supplemented by technological considerations. Within the explanations the exceptional (painting) technological details are being interpreted in the context of the development of wall painting techniques in the 15th century.
The late medieval interior design of the former library gives the impression of a certain proximity to the book illumination, both technically and formally.

Dr. phil. h.c. Jürgen Pursche hat Angewandte Kunst und Kunstgeschichte studiert und wurde am Institut für Denkmalpflege in Halle a.d. Saale sowie am International Center for Conservation Rom in Konservierung-Restaurierung für Wandmalerei ausgebildet. Nach selbständiger Tätigkeit als Restaurator im Bereich des Instituts für Denkmalpflege Halle folgten konservatorisch-restauratorische Tätigkeiten in Wien/Österreich, ab 1979 bis 2008 z. T. leitende Tätigkeit in den Restaurierungswerkstätten des Bayerischen Landesamtes für Denkmalpflege München, danach Lehraufträge und zwei Verwaltungs-Professuren. Zwischenzeitlich Mitglied der ICOMOS Arbeitsgruppe für Wandmalerei, Forschungsprojekte zur Erhaltung von Wandmalerei sowie einschlägige Publikationstätigkeit. Kontakt: jpursche@gmx.de

Dr. phil. h.c. Jürgen Pursche has studied Applied Art and Art History and was educated in conservation-restoration for mural paintings at the Institute of National Monuments (in Halle a.d. Saale) and at the International Centre for Conservation in Rom. After a time as an independent conservator within the National Monuments Service in Halle, he worked as a conservator/restorer in Vienna/Austria. From 1979 – 2008 partially he was head of the conservation workshops of the Bavarian National Monuments Service. This was followed by teaching commissions and two administrative professorships. In between he was a member of the ICOMOS committee for wall paintings; also there were research projects for the preservation of wall paintings, and relevant publications.
