Zusammenfassung: | The Schrenkaltar (end of 14th century) from St. Peter in Munich has been examined with regards to its structure, its sandstone, its polychromy and the historical reworks it has undergone. An exact measured drawing has been produced witch helped to identify the measurements and the arrangements of the medieval stone blocks as well as the sculptural additions from the 19th century. It was possible to identify the stone as from Mittenwald sandstone. The examination proves that the polychromy is severely destroyed after its 1956/57 uncovering and, other than previously assumed, is not of medieval origin. The fragments of the paint layers were described and put into historical context. Also included is an overview about the life and work of the sculptor Joseph Otto Entres (1804-1807), who restored the Schrenkaltar in the 19th century. |
