Zusammenfassung: | A soundproof telephone box installed in Stuttgart’s city hall in 1956 was removed in 2001 and is going to be part of the permanent exhibit at the Stadtmuseum Stuttgart in the future. As the museum wishes the object to be accessible to visitors it was necessary to develop a conservation treatment to address the structural damages as well as the fractured plywood shell. In its introduction the paper describes the design and development of telephones, telephone boxes and telephone-culture as well as the history of the city hall building and the provenance of the specific telephone box that is the subject of the conservation concept. This is followed by a thorough examination of the object, design description and the condition survey report. The research results presented build the base for the conservation concept and the subsequent conservation treatment. |
