Zusammenfassung: | Objects of the Aranda in the Australia-Collection from Carl Strehlow at the Museum der Weltkulturen in Frankfurt am Main were particularly recorded in regard to conservatorial aspects and the objects’ complex contexts. The information gathered lays the groundwork for a comprehension of the significance of the collection. The data shows how diverse the objects are in their function and material properties and they demonstrate to what extend intangible components should be included in future conservation treatments. As an attempt to capture the intangible, currently used concepts as well as examples for handling culturally sensitive material - such as sacred and secret objects - were introduced in this thesis. It became obvious that museum-quality collectables, which are simultaneously indigenous ritual objects, today pose a challenge, also for conservators. Dealing with these issues requires a new mindset. |
