Zusammenfassung: | The Zacherlfabrik located in the 19th district of Vienna was built in the last third of the 19th century and represents an extraordinary industrial building of historicism. The ensemble reflects the oriental style that was widespread across Europe at that time, and with its elaborate decor, it shows the highly aesthetic, creative spirit of the then owner of the company, Johann Evangelist Zacherl, who created one of the most outstanding examples of historicist industrial architecture in Austria. The thesis is concerned with the development of a methodology to preserve and restore the interior wall surfaces of the foyer, which are furnished with elaborate stucco decoration and high-quality animal-glue based painting. These interior wall decorations on the first floor of the office building have suffered water induced damages to the roof. The concept developed for the restoration of the foyer intends to preserve the decorated interior wall surfaces of the foyer and to improve the aesthetic effect and readability by wet-chemical cleaning methods. It was implemented on a test area of the foyer. |
