Zusammenfassung: The fragments of wallpaintings are inside the central alcove on the wall on the western side. Both
plasters were made of two layers of chalk with paintings in the technique of secco. The painted
surfaces from the 17th century consist of a delineation in the technology of fresco and suspicion it
the polychrome, artic, figurative painting. They represent the right side of a frame and they are
decorated with objects and plants with iconographic character. The decorations stay in conection
with the vanitas symbolism. The fragment from the 18th century has a white background with a grey,
monochrom, structure painting in the base. The technology is in secco as well.
First an analytic archeological structur of the alcove and of the condition of materials and damages
were done. The undertake scientific examinations based on the concentration of salt, the fragile
detaching plasters, the used materials of plaster and layers of paint and their application method.
From these results the concept of conservation and restoration was developed. The main problems
were the stabilisation of the fragile plasters and the integration of the 17th century wallpainting
fragment with the current grave chapel in 18th century style.
For the main part of the conservation, in order to fill the cavity between the plaster and the wall,
additional examinations had to be carried out. The criteria was to reduce the weight of the fill‐in
mortar with “Liaver – Blähglaskugeln” and the increase in penetration from the fill‐in mortar PLM‐AL.
Because of using solvents under consideration of firmness the quality could be improved.
Finally a bill of quantities for the entire indoor of the grave chapel for future conservation and
restoration steps was developed.
