Zusammenfassung: The collection of the Ägyptisches Museum Leipzig – “Georg Steindorff” houses an extensive collection of old Egyptian stone vessels, particularly calcite alabaster vessels. Since their discovery during the first half of the 20th century they have been restored more than once, which is confirmed by an accumulation of different adhesives on the adherend. These earlier adhesives are of inferior quality and have turned opaque, which visually disturbs the overall picture. As there have no documentations about the restorations been prepared at the museum before the 1990s, an analysis of the applied adhesives was made. A magnesium oxychloride cement, natural resins, silicone resin, zinc oxide cement with organic compounds and cellulose nitrate were verified. The studies were aimed at illustrating the practice of previous restorations at the museum. This way, adhesives can be identified for the concept of measures of following restorations. The procedures include the removal of aged restoration materials and the bonding of fragments with modern, reversible and aesthetically pleasing adhesives.
