| Zusammenfassung: | Subject of this Bachelor-thesis is a painted portrait dating from the 18th century which may depict a governor, who led the affairs of the Kurfürstlich- Mainzischen state of Erfurt on behalf of the archbishop of Mainz. It is a non-tightened canvas painting. At the time of acquisition, it was in a rolled-up position, with the image side facing inward. Due to the lack of a stabilizing winding core, the canvas then collapsed under its own weight. In the course of the storage in this condition, it was also folded once in the middle. Sharp bends at the side of the roll occurred as a result. In the present thesis, the condition of the painting and the causes of the damage are being explained. The focus of the study is on the damages that have occurred on the textile image-carrier as well as on the image layer, in relation to the rolling-up and storage in this condition. A final conservation and restoration concept of measures is an integral part of this work. |
