Zusammenfassung: The present Master-Thesis addresses the issue of the restoration and relocation of a baroque portal. Erected in 1914 in the Liebieghaus-Garden in Frankfurt-am-Main, it is to be integrated into the facade of a planned townhouse in the course of the redevelopment of the area around the historic cathedral and the Römer in Frankfurt. Topics include whether the portal is a spoil or not and whether its integration represents a translocation. As a result, the portal is described as a "deliberate spoil" and its integration is considered a translocation. The incorporation of the baroque portal in the planned new building will be critically discussed.
Text sources on the construction of the Neustadt in Frankfurt in the 18th century, style comparisons and research analysis allows the dating of the portal between 1720 and 1740 as the facade of a Baroque garden house. Literature locates such a building in the garden of the "Große Eschenheimer Gasse 41". This lot bordered the pigeon farms, which is the location of the disassembled portal. According to this, the location of the portal was different from its installation site. The thesis demonstrates the way the portal was integrated into the former building, how the missing structures may have looked like, and what function it may have had.
Based on an inventory list and the description of the condition, a set of measures has been developed for the preservation, restoration and reconstruction of the portal. Materials, measures and quantities are based on findings, research, images and maps. The concept forms the imputed basis for a bill of quantities and costing. The priorities for the restoration are the consolidation of the cracked building stone and the treatment of missing areas. With the aid of two examples, the advantages and disadvantages of using pre-stressed anchors and shear connectors in practical applications are being discussed. The thesis presents the first, already completed step of the implementation process of the portal, and gives an outlook on the proposed next steps.
