This Master-Thesis deals with the planning of the conservation and restoration of a hose-diving device from the twentieth century, which is part of the collection of the Deutsches Bergbau Museum Bochum, as well as with the development of an appropriate form of presentation of the object. In addition to a historical classification, construction and function of the object are being addressed as well. The main focus lies on the analysis of the condition of the contained materials, which serves as a base for the development of a construction for the forthcoming presentation in the exhibition. Furthermore, a conservation and restoration concept in accordance with the aim of the presentation is an important part of the present thesis; therefore, a special focus lies on the elastomeric compounds of the composite object. Consequently, the problematic handling of aged rubber materials in conservation and restoration is pointed out and the present proposed solutions for treatment of the latter are being discussed.
