Zusammenfassung: It was the aim of the present Master-Thesis to test a selection of materials with regards to their consolidation effect on corrosion-lamellae in archaeological glasses. The main focus laid on an organosilicon, which is currently being developed at the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague. A further hybrid material, CLOISIL A18, and the acrylic polymer Paraloid B72 were also included in these tests. The materials were applied on archaeological glass fragments and exposed to artificial weathering. The materials’ characteristics were analysed by XRF, SEM, UV/Vis and FTIR next to macro- and microscopically evaluations. However, the organosilicon, in which it was hoped to find a new consolidation material, turned out to be not suitable for object conservation. The lack of elastic properties causes cracking and flaking of the corrosion lamellae. As a result, the surface condition deteriorates dramatically. Despite high chemical stability and good deterioration characteristics, it appears that the material in its current composition is only applicable as a protective coating on smooth and clean glass surfaces.
