| Zusammenfassung: | The present Master-Thesis deals with the inventory and conservation of a convolute of 26 wallpapers and bordures originating from the castle Kannawurf in the administrative district of Sömmerda (Free State of Thuringia). The convolute was salvaged in 1994 by the Thüringer Landesamt für Denkmalpflege and is now part of the wallpaper-collection of the Department of Conservation and Restoration at the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt. The wallpapers and respective bordures originate from three different rooms of the first and second floor of the said castle and present themselves as a packet of three complete layers. The main goal of the thesis is to provide a concept by which the stock of wallpapers can be conserved. In order to achieve this, the condition of each individual wallpaper needs to be determined to create a basis for individual treatment. Considering the extended time-frame in which the different wallpapers and bordures were manufactured, another aim is to establish an information-pool on possible production processes, provenance and materials. Thoughts on creating an expedient and representative storage-concept complete the content of this thesis. So far, there is no general strategy on the conservation and archival handling of wallpaper convolutes. The developed concept is intended to represent a universally applicable method which can be transferred on further wallpaper convolutes in the future. |
