Zusammenfassung: | The present bachelor thesis deals with the analysis of the wooden cover of the document Anti Lutherus with a focus on manufacturing technology and condition. The first part of the thesis concerns itself with the subject of wood in general. The anatomical features and special characteristics of this material are presented in detail. Furthermore, the requirements of wooden covers are explained. This is followed by a historical classification of late medieval wooden covers and a detailed production description, which explains exactly in which order the wood is to be processed and which special features must be considered. The second part of this thesis builds on this knowledge. For this practical part, the document Anti Lutherus from 1525 was provided by the Dombibliothek Hildesheim. On its front cover all analyses were made. With the help of macroscopy, a moisture measurement and the use of UV- light, the wood type of the board was identified, the historical traces of the process identified and the signs of use as well as the condition of the wooden board were determined. Concluding, a summary of the results is presented, showing, among other things, why it is of advantage to examine both wooden boards of a cover. |
