Zusammenfassung: This Master-Thesis focuses on a reliquary (Pl.O.3486) from Nuremberg, dated into the early 16th century. It consists of a wooden body and decorative metal elements. Due to the composite nature of the object, it serves as an interface between several conservation and restoration disciplines and is a special challenge, not least because of the temporary state of its current condition. The reason for the development of a concept for conservation and restoration of the reliquary is its planned integration in the revised permanent exhibition of the late Middle Ages in the GermanischesNationalmuseum in Nuremberg. The concept is founded on an extensive arttechnologicalexamination, on the basis of which an ethical discussion in view of various methodical considerations is conducted. Possible procedures for cleaning and exposing of the decorative elements, especially of the silver alloys and amalgam-gilded copper alloys, are tried out in a series of tests.
