| Zusammenfassung: | This bachelor´s thesis deals with the treatment proposal for the restoration of the usability of the cor- pus of the palm-leaf bible "Cod. Ms. Or. Var. 70 Biblia Malabrica" from 1768, which is stored in the archive of the „Niedersächsischen Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek“ Göttingen (SUB). The corpus, which is designed as an oversized, leatherbound wooden object in the shape of a book with twelve drawers, is in very poor condition with structural damage that impairs the function and accessibility of the drawers. Specific damages include a deformed side of the corpus, detached drawer bottoms, broken drawer joints, missing drawer fronts and voids in the soubles of the drawer fronts. Furthermore, there are broken areas as well as missing parts in the the corpus, and delaminations in the leather- covered areas. This thesis includes the examination of the corpus structure and the used materials, as well as the treatment proposal for the cleaning and securing of surfaces and the replacement of missing parts. Additionally, various methods for securing, stabilizing, and supplementing joints and drawer fronts were tested and evaluated using dummies. Finally, recommendations for restoring the usability of the corpus are made, taking into account different materials and techniques to ensure a sustainable and functional solution. |
