Zusammenfassung: HANS KLOCKER’S Traminer Altar in the Bayerischen Nationalmuseum, Munich not only was one of the first pieces of this museum, but art history is praising it above all because it is one of the two preserved altars of the original ensemble attributed to KLOCKER from South Tyrol. The estimated date of origin of the altar is about 1495. Both the art historical theories – unity and date of origin – were examined in the thesis at hand from an art technological point of view and the state of preservation was ascertained. For this purpose first of all a technical drawing of the precise shape had to be drawn up; on the base of this technical drawing it became possible to determine the composition of the altar and possible changes in its construction. Microscopy-, Infra-red-, and UV-tests made to determine construction, design, techniques of carving and painting as well as polychromy confirm that the single elements were harmonizing from the altar’s date of origin onwards, that they had not undergone changes in line with changing trends in the course of time and that they are of late medieval provenience. At the same time as it were specific painting techniques and characteristics of the artist KLOCKER could be detected. The thesis at hand is accompanied by an extensive photographic documentation of the altar and an iconographical interpreting description of the single elements – sculptures, reliefs, paintings – as well as elements belonging together such as groups of figures, shrine, predella and wings. In doing so it was possible to ascertain art technologically the introduced art historical theories (unity) or at least substantiate them (date of origin).
