Abstract: The present paper gives a review of past and present training opportunities to conservators of furniture and wooden objects in Germany. For this purpose an historic abstract of the formation of the profession ‘conservator of furniture and wooden objects’ is given. Subsequent the first training opportunities for the period between 1945 and the 1980’s are presented. The development of the former tertiary education and its structure is defined afterwards. The current situation is analysed and the different opportunities are compared with each other. Finally the paper provides an indication of continuing research work.
