Kati Friedmann: Carolingian Trellis Works of Laas Marble in Müstair - Survey and Concept of Preservation back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: In the Benedictine Convent Saint John trellis works of Laas marble were excavated dated to Charlemagne´s reign. These are of archaeological evidence of Carolingian sanctuary design.
A survey of a large part of the stones was carried out with respect to state of preservation, residues of polychromy and workmanship.
Furthermore it was searched for causes of the present weathering phenomenons. The main cause for decays is salt contamination leading to granular disintegration. Different consolidants were examined in order to use it for temporary preconsolidation to carry out a desalination.
