Abstract: The diploma thesis gives a general historical overview of developement of bronze cast bells, different casting methods and common alloys of cast bells. These aspects, already seperately adressed in literature, are summarized and supplemented. Issues regarding preservation and conservation bronze cast bells are outlined on Simon Urnorfer’s bell (1650), which was located originally in the parish church Zwettl. Established methods of conserveration and reparing bells are discussed and scutinized. The topic is complemented with scientific analysis, which should serve as a basis for future investigations of corrosion products on bronzes. Besides the conservation, a concept presenting the bell in an exhibition is elaborated.
