Overview:

Abstract: Topic of the following thesis is the composition and condition of a fabric synthetic leather which was used as an external car cover. Main component and the object of the research is the Lloyd LP 300, a car build in 1950 from Lloyd Motoren Werke GmbH in Bremen. With its pontoon-shaped, but in wood construction manufactured body and a cover made of artificial leather, the car is an socio-economic exception in West Germany due to the conditions after the Second World War. As the result of a dominant neglect phase, which the object has undergone along with the complex material composition, a multitude of questions for the restoration-conservatory process of the various states have to be clarified. As a new study object of the HTW Berlin individual components are examined and processed by different students. This master thesis discusses the synthetic leather cover and studies the possible handling of cracks and flaws by assuming a laminated textile as well as various methods for uniform cleaning of the PVC-coating.
