Pai Maier: The lost sound - A small gramophone from the Nirona-Werke Beierfeld, Saxony back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The objective of this work is the restoration and
consolidation of a small gramophone from the
Nirona-Werke Beierfeld, Saxony, from the 1920s.
The exact circumstances of its entry into the
Technikmuseum Berlin are unfortunately
unknown, as is information on previous owners.
Nevertheless, the gramophone can be assigned
to the late 1920s. First, a cultural and historical
classification is made, focusing on the history of
the origins of the gramophone, the zeitgeist of
the 1920s and an overview of the Nirona works.
This is followed by a scientific examination, which
leads into a discussion of how to deal with
everyday objects of industrial culture and
discusses the appropriate cleaning method.
Finally, there is an outlook on the still
outstanding conservation and assembly.
