Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: During an excavation in the 1950s the Morken deposit, dated 600 AC, was found underneath the churchyard of Morken. The burial has not been disturbed and precious grave goods also as archaeological fabrics in situ within a bronze bowl could be secured. During the work for this thesis all textile fragments were analyzed and documented. Eight fabrics of highest quality could have been determined, which acted as well as the grave goods as status symbols. The origin of fabrication and the provenance of the fabrics suggest that the buried person has been a personality of highest rank with extensive trading connection and financial liquidity to attain these precious textiles.
