Abstract: The epitaph consists of a panel painting and an elaborated woodcarved polychromed frame. It was technological examined. The results of this examination were compared to art historical, cultural historical and technologically findings of the 16th century in the Nuremberg area. The techniques and materials were traditionally used in the common handicraft way of Southern Germany of that time. In comparison to works of art made in the late 16th and early 17th century lots of parallels can be seen. What is more the condition of the epitaph was documented in order to show a concept for preservation and conservation.
