Abstract: The conservation practice it is often necessary to measure the moisture content of wood. This is concerning chattels and construction timber. Therefore various measuring instruments should be examined regarding their adaptability. Therefore Series of measurements have been carried out on natural and biological damaged wood. The series of measurements demonstrated different results concerning the measuring accuracy. Furthermore the advantages and disadvantages of measuring systems are elaborated, as well as practical fields of application will be presented.
