Abstract: This thesis provides insights into the production history of nails.
The focus of the analysis is wood and metal nails which were in production
from the pre-industrial to industrial periods. In addition to a closer look
at the term itself, the importance of nails and their functional
principle,the source material is also examined and elaborated.
The manufacturers, the materials and techniques used are summarised.
The result is an overview of diversity of types and forms, and a collection of the basic identifying features.
