Abstract: This thesis will examine the applicability of the tear mending techniques usually employed in paper conservation with regard to an extensive collection of modern manuscripts. In Cooperation with the Forschungsbibliothek Gotha the thesis will furthermore show approaches to conservation for its culturally and historically significant collection of records concerning the Protestant Reformation. The main damage affecting its papers are mechanical impairments mainly concerning the edges. Treatment criteria for a local stabilization will be devised. Their practicability will be considered by means of test-series and in conclusion a commendation will be given.
