Abstract: The present master thesis is concerned with the life-sized crucifix of the protestant St. Elisabeth church in Hude in the administrative district of Oldenburg. The polychrome wooden object was made in Northern Germany in the end of the 15th century. The artist is unknown. The cultural and art historical context was analysed and circumstantiated with comparable objects. Afterwards the history of the object and the restoration was described. One focus of this thesis is on the technological research. It allowed in connection with the history of restoration, conclusions about the different surfaces and their dating in the 20th century. Based on the results of the investigations a theoretical concept for the conservation and the restoration was created.
