Abstract: The master thesis deals with investigation of the inventory and state of preservation of the double chapel St. Ulrich of the Imperial Palace of Goslar with the elaboration of a conservation and restoration concept. The central work deals with the basic research, inventory and condition assessment of preserved paintings from the late 19th century, the establishment of the damage genesis in the murals and mapping of meaningful areas to visualize the present phenomena. A compilation of theoretical possibilities to support a conservation and restoration concept are getting created.
The conduct of investigations is fundamentally and begins phenomenological optical and builds up with the scientific analyzes. This includes physical, chemical, microbiological tests as well as an accompanying photo documentation. The results of the phenomenological optical and scientific studies serve as a basis for concept development. The double chapel of St. Ulrich is an architecturally unique building and has an interesting art historical picturing. The painting is there worth to be preserved.
