Abstract: | The two viaducts near Steinhaus in Styria (Steinhaus-Nord and Steinhaus-Süd-Viaducts) were built by the company Gebrüder Fleischmann & Blühdorn between 1853-55 and belong to the Semmering-railway, which is part of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. Both viaducts consist only of stone, like Rauhwacke and the conglomerate of Lindabrunn. This thesis includes a building material and a condition survey of the two viaducts. The main focus lays on the investigation of the conglomerate of Lindabrunn, which was used for the viaduct’s cornices. This conglomerate is strongly affected by disintegration due to weathering. Therefore, a concept for the treatment of the strongly weathered stone material is developed. |
