Overview:

Abstract: The topic of the present diploma thesis covers the reconstruction in the Historical Heritage
Preservation in general and in particular the reconstruction carried out at the lion‐gate in Hattuscha,
Turkey.
After investigations had been carried out in 2009 concerning the stone ruins of the lion‐gate and an
action plan had been determined, the preservation as well as the reconstruction of the missing lion
head could take place in 2010. The intention of the reconstruction was to enhance the lion‐gate’s
monumentality as well as to rebuild the complex, which suffered from symmetry because of the
loss of one of the lion heads. An improvement of the perceptibility of the aesthetic dimension of the
complex could be achieved for the numerous visitors.
