| Abstract: | The present paper originated within the work of a bachelor’s degree and deals with Sedilia in the upper church of Arnstadt/Thuringia. Comprehensive investigations into the history and to the continuance and state were documented and visually shown in view of a later conservation. The momentary research grasps facts concerning painting technology, the original colour creation ‐ including architecture framing ‐ as well as details of the iconographic representation and sphere situations. After the settlement of the Franciscans in 1246 and the establishment of the former barefooted friar’s church, the representative Gothic style sandstone seat on the south side of the choral space has served the clergy. Historically, the importance of the Christian liturgy and temporarily slight appreciation to oblivion is the reformation by Luther. Other contents provide that the mendicant order monks used different aspects than the principles of St. Francis. The late 19th century discovered the art of the Middle Ages again and a new value was established which won Sedilia. No more than a seat of the ecclesiastical clergy is part of the interior equipment. The enthusiasm for the medieval one should make the priest’s bank in the original figure experience able again. However, this lasts only for a short period of time due to presently methodical attempts followed by modern materials in combination with salt and water which are the principal reason for the current condition. According to an analysis of the state of affairs, the following considerations are to be formed as a coalition for conservatory measures with sphere situations and the present total concept. |
