Overview:

Abstract: Subject of this diploma thesis are two glass vases which belonged originally to the Stibadium in the
Park Sanssouci, Potsdam. The objects were made in around 1850, probably by the Josephine
Glassworks in Schreiberhau, Silesia.
The thesis focuses mainly on the vase made of uranium glass. This vase shows amongst other
damages the phenomenon of crizzling. The glass’ surface is soiled by a layer of iron (III)‐sulphate.
The application of ion exchangers for the removal of the dark layer of soil leads to successful results.
The missing area at the base of the vase was reconstructed and filled with a bespoke piece of cast glass.
