Abstract: | This exposition comprised a research into three constituent parts of a detached mural painting, relating to their various conditions. The exhibits belong to the Suermondt‐ Ludwig‐Museum in Aachen. The history of detaching wall paintings in Germany includes the exposure to the objects today. The kinds of traditional detachment technologies were practiced from the middle of the 19th century, but documents or publications about are rare. Many detached mural wall paintings from different periods exist in museums, but an overview about the conditions is missing. The detaching method is given from the technological stock and shows the different treatments of past conservations. The acquisition of damages offers a base for a continuative concept of conservation, including the three fragments. |
