Overview:

Abstract: This Bachelor Thesis records the current state and condition of a group of stone sculptures, entitled: “Mutterglück” (“Joy of Motherhood”), which are held by the “Förderungszentrum Johann Amos” in Herrnhut. The group was given in support of the centre and is exhibited in the rose-rondel of the manor’s garden. In case of its restoration, the group will be returned to its current location.
The history of the object is briefly summarized, whereby oral sources dominate.
Earlier changes and additions to the original settings are being described and documented with photographs.
The drawn mapping summarises the present damages and illustrate that those of biological growth dominate.
The subject of this thesis is the determination of a concept for appropriate restoration measures. Furthermore, specific damage patterns of marble are being described in general. Notably, the particular causes for the damages of metamorphic rocks – especially of marble – are being emphasized.
Scientific research and analysis are essential foundations for the restoration. Methods available are being introduced and explained.
