Abstract: | The centerpiece of this work is a late 15th-century double-sided painted enamel medallion, which is part of the collection of the Kunsthistorisches Museum of Vienna. The art-historical reconstruction of the medallion shows the great importance within the object group of Lombard enamel pieces. A part of the research focuses on the technological description of the scientific analyses done on this piece. Historic restoration, including a coating with Paraloid B72 from 1951, have led to its poor condition. The removal of this coating is one of the central conservation problems which have been investigated within the scope of the diploma thesis. The conservation was carried out on the basis of a concept adapted to the object specific requirements. |
Keywords: | Lombard painted enamel, enamel corrosion, historic Paraloid coating, coating removal |
