Abstract: | The diploma thesis deals with the art-technological investigation of a lined canvas painting (1816) by Johann Friedrich Matthäi. In addition to the implementation of conservative and restorative measures - the focus lies on the varnish removal - the artist´s painting technique has to be explored. It becomes clear that the preparation of the painting, as in underdrawing and preliminary drawing, was of decisive importance for Matthäi´s way of working. |
