Overview:
Abstract: The pulpit and altar are what remains of a rood screen from 1230 - 1250 (dismantled in 1868). Both the pulpit and the altar are made of sandstone. The pulpit shows figural stucco reliefs on three sides. The historical technique of the stucco reliefs was examined in a previous study leading up to the diploma thesis. The diploma thesis contains the examination and documentation of the historical paint layers on the pulpit and altar. Microbiological activity, as a result of the environmental conditions, was singled out as a possible cause for present and future deterioration of the paint layers. Based on the findings and taking the future presentation into consideration, a conservation concept was developed and executed in situ on representative test areas.
