Overview:

Abstract: The Kunsthalle Marcel Duchamp was created by Caroline Bachmann and Stefan Banz in 2009 and donated to the Wolfsburg Art Museum in 2015/16 with the exhibition La Broyeuse de chocolat. It is a miniature art hall in form of an outdoor sculpture and presents exhibitions on a very small scale. The current form of presentation, however, harbors various problems. To develop a treatment concept for the Kunsthalle Marcel Duchamp, first the work progress is reconstructed and numerous gaps in the documentation are closed. This is followed by an object analysis, consisting of descriptions of technological findings, the current state of condition and an evaluation of the current exhibition concept. Various approaches for the conservation and presentation of the work are elaborated and discussed. For this matter the artists and the museum are involved. It is decided that in the case of the Kunsthalle Marcel Duchamp the artistical concept is valued higher than the preservation of its specific materials. Therefore, the treatment concept takes an outdoor exhibition into account and focuses on renewing the sealing layers of the Kunsthalle. The developed concept is carried out as part of the thesis. Furthermore, a regular change of exhibitions inside the Kunsthalle is recommended. At the end of the thesis, methods of documentation for the work are addressed. In this context, an installation manual is written, and a documentation template is prepared.
