Tanja Christina Kreß: The revision of antique leather finds back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: A large amount of roman footwear found in a well in 1976 had to be retreated for redisplay. Formerly the shoes have been conserved with PEG 600
( polyethylenglykol ), reassembled with epoxyresins and mounted on modern supports made of polyurethane foam. These supports are heavily degraded and it was found that probadly PEG is responsible for the decay. Possibilities of a retreatment were assessed concerning the epoxyresins which were tryed to remove. The unsuitable shapes of the supports were distorting thr leather. By humidifying with a membrane laminate they were reshaped for new supports proposals are given.
