Overview:

Abstract: The dissertation deals with a polychrome painted wooden frame of a renaissance epitaph from 1634.
The theoretical part of the dissertation introduces the epitaphs development as well as the objects former locations, the Nikolai Church and the Mürkisches Museum in Berlin. This is followed by an analysis of the object, that means examination concerning materials, construction and completion. The practical part deals with feasible methods of conservation treatment for the object, which was badly affected by damages of water, fire, insects and by blackening. Finally a method of presentation of the epitaph in the museums exhibition is suggested.
