Abstract: The subject matter of this study on the art of altar building in the 18. century is the high altar in the parish church St. Martin in Buch am Buchrain. The altar was documented in graphic and his sytem of construction was analysed. This way it was possible to get insights to the working method, to the genesis of the altar and the history of changes the altar had to deal with. On the ohter hand a comparison of the external appearance with the real building structure of the altar made an understandig of the rococo art appreciation possible.
