Indra Spahn: A late medieval reliquary from Oberwesel Technological research, studies of the deterioration and conception of restoration and treatment back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: Within the framework of the present thesis, a technological analysis of a late medieval reliquary
was conducted. The findings on both, the original material and object alterations durig the history
of the reliquary, served as a basis for the development of a concept for conservation and
restoration. This concept was carried out on sample fields. Specific feature of the work was the
complex material combination of the object which also required dealing with materials foreign to
the subject.
The middle part of the reliquary shows more than 100 relics in 47 trays protected by painted side
panels. Unavailable to the public for many years, the object will in the future be situated in
Oberwesel, its suposed point of origin.
