Overview:
Abstract: The present master thesis entitled “Comparative examination of an ensemble and considerations on their conservation at Schloss Marienburg”, for obtaining the degree Master of Science, is a comparative survey of an ensemble of six portraits, depicting Welfish nobility by an unknown artist of the 17th century. The ensemble is dated on the basis of current literature, source research and art-historical classification of costume science. In addition, the previous attribution of the paintings by three artists are examined, discussed and reclassified.
Usingcurrent invasive and non-invasive examination methods, the structure of the painting is examined in detail and analyzed using analytical examination methods. In addition, the state of conservation is compared and linked to the results of provenance research. Finally, conceptual recommendations are formulated for the permanent presentation of the ensemble in a non-museum environment at Schloss Marienburg, Pattensen.
