| Zusammenfassung: | This bachelor thesis deals with the topic of microcrystalline waxes and their use in conservation and restoration. Since microcrystalline waxes have established themselves particularly in the preservation of metal surfaces, the focus of this work is on this subject. It is explained what microcrystalline waxes are and how they differ from other waxes in terms of structure and properties. A digression on the material science of metals and the explanation of requirements for conservation measures on metal surfaces, provides the basis for understanding the suitability of microcrystalline waxes for this material. Building on this, the possible uses and effects of protective coatings on metal surfaces with microcrystalline waxes are discussed. Afterwards three possible application methods are presented. Finally, the discourse on the aesthetic change in metal surfaces treated with microcrystalline waxes will be highlighted. |
