This thesis (Bern University of Arts BUA) deals with a 17th century Italian school painting on canvas from the collection of the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire de Genève (MAHG). It has a yellowed varnish on the surface and brown varnish residues in a paviment-like structure generated by a previous lining.
The application of a micro-cleaning tool in the conservation-restoration workshop of the Bern University of the Arts (BUA) has raised questions and asked to be tested in comparison to the cotton swab to remove the yellowed varnish that prevents the good readibility of the main characters of De Pietri’s “Saint Francois de Paule”.
